Provincial Competition<\/h1>\n

The Skills Canada PEI Provincial Competition serves to highlight the talents and successes of over 300 Island students each year. Competitions are held in 38 categories of trades and technologies \u2013 open to Island high school, post-secondary and apprentice students.<\/em><\/strong> The Provincial Skills Competition serves as the selection process for the National Competition held each year.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

One registrant, per competition, per high<\/strong> school, will be accepted until after the close of registration.<\/strong> At that time, if spaces are still available, they will be made available to the high schools on a first come \u2013 first serve basis. Notification of space availability will be made via email to high school teachers that have expressed an interest in a second spot.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Skills Canada Prince Edward Island annually hosts competitions for both high school and post-secondary level students and apprentices.<\/strong> Each contest is tailored to a specific industry, and competitors are challenged to perform tasks against students from around the province.<\/p>\n

One of the main ways in which Skills Canada Prince Edward Island achieves its goals is by offering and participating in Provincial, National and International level competitions in Skilled Trades and Technologies.<\/p>\n

These competitions are offered at\u00a0both the Secondary and Post-Secondary Level in every province and territory.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Contest Description document is a detailed description of the contest with information that will be used by competitors to prepare for the competitions. The contest description includes a general outline of the challenge, project description, knowledge and skills to be tested, materials and equipment (including books, notes, tools and manuals)<\/em> which will be provided by the committee, materials and equipment that the competitors must or may provide, and judging criteria.<\/p>\n

The contest descriptions are updated regularly leading up to the competition event dates
and are posted above<\/strong>.<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

New competitions or those with low registration\u00a0numbers may be offered as ‘Demonstration Competitions at the discretion of SCPEI during the Provincials.<\/p>\n

For Demonstration Competitions, medals may be awarded, however, the gold medal winner is not automatically invited to compete at\u00a0the Skills Canada National Competition.<\/p>\n

Provincial Competitions are offered by eachn province and territory annually in the spring. The Provincials are designed and implemented by Provincial Technical Committees (PTC’s)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Provincial Competitions are 1-day events (contests 6 hours or less) and offered at the Secondary and Post-Secondary\/ Apprenticeship level.<\/p>\n

Competition gold medal winners of the Provincials may go on to represent the region at the Skills Canada National Competition if they attain a\u00a0minimum score of 70%<\/strong> in their contest.<\/p>\n

Competitors will demonstrate their ability to perform jobs and skills of ‘entry-level’ positions.<\/p>\n

In some cases, the contest will include both a written test (up to 20%) and a practical ‘hands on’ project (at least 80%).<\/p>\n

The\u00a0committee will decide if their event will include a written \/theory exam.<\/p>\n

Secondary students meeting the eligibility criteria may be registered by a teacher in an event on a first come, first serve basis until all the available spots are full Most event areas allow only one competitor (1 team) per school.<\/p>\n

The additional spots and waiting list requests will be awarded at the discretion of the SCPEI. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Priority will be given to schools that are not already registered in the event. In the event all schools are\u00a0registered, second spots will be given according to date received of registration forms.<\/p>\n

Winning the provincial competiton and being able to compete in nationals really made me feel like I was good at what I was doing<\/strong> and I still love building and fixing things everyday for a living.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
