ABOUT US
Skills Canada PEI is a registered charity created in partnership with government, industry, educational and labour institutions. It is part of a larger national organization whose mandate is to encourage youth to consider skills and technology-based career options, which help fuel economic growth for the province and the country, while creating interesting and challenging employment opportunities for young Canadians.
Our economy is changing. Technology and skills are becoming more and more important in Prince Edward Island and in Canada. And with the right training, technology fields present great employment opportunities for our youth. Skills Canada PEI exists to build awareness of these opportunities and to help youth make smart career choices. Ones that can lead to meaningful, long-term employment.
Skills Canada PEI offers in-school presentations across the Island. This interactive presentation is informative and fun and used to broaden students’ knowledge and ideas about careers in trades and technology. If you’re a teacher interested in scheduling a presentation for your class please contact us!
Skills Canada PEI Mission Statement
Why we exist: To encourage and support a coordinated Canadian approach to promoting skilled trades and technologies to youth.
Presidents Message
Welcome to the Skills Canada Prince Edward Island website. We are a not-for-profit organization that works with industry, employers, educators, and governments to promote trade and technology careers as a first choice career path for Canadian youth.
All too often a lack of credible information regarding trades and technology career opportunities prohibits youth from pursuing a successful career in skilled trades. Skills Canada PEI is committed to better educate youth, parents, educators, guidance councilors and the general public. You can explore career opportunities in the trades and technology fields and find out about our exciting events here on our website. We’ve also included links to our provincial, national and international partners. I hope that you will find the information here useful as you embark on the first stage of what I am sure will be a long and fruitful career in the trades and technology.
The highlight of the year for us is always our skills competition, where high school and college students and young apprentices compete in 34 separate trades related categories to advance to national and international Skills competitions. These competitions are a great way to explore the trades, meet leaders in the industry and test the waters to see if you are suited for a career in the trades.
If you have any questions about trades training and career paths, please contact us.
Sincerely,
Sue LeFort
